In the last 14 years, PADI worldwide individual membership has grown 66 percent, as a growing number of people want to get up close and personal with the mysteries of the deep. From December 10-16, Breezes Grand Negril Resort & Spa is giving guests the opportunity to experience the allure and beauty of marine life at an affordable price. During “Scuba Week,” guests can enjoy 50 percent off PADI certification, reducing the standard price of certification from $350 to just $175. The novice package also includes a free resort course (normally priced at $70), and up to three dives daily, plus two complimentary night dives.

Situated along the scenic white-sand beaches of Jamaica’s Southwest shore, this resort is a wonderful place for a tropical underwater adventure. Breezes Runaway Bay has the luxury of a dozen sites all within a 10- to 20-minute boat ride from the dockside. The deep sites usually offer a dramatic topography of sloping or vertical wall, 30 to 60 feet deep. Reef life ranges from barracuda, spotted eagle rays, southern stingrays, turtles and many other colorful forms of fish life. A multitude of sponge life in varying shapes, sizes and colors are everywhere, and huge soft corals including gorgonian fans abound. Dolphins also appear on occasion, and there are a number of artificial reefs to explore, including several airplanes, and a boat.

In between scuba diving, guests are welcome to unwind on dry land with a la carté treatments at the Blue Mahoe Spa with a variety of facials, body scrubs and massages. Guests can also enjoy a myriad of other water and land sports, including tennis and windsurfing, or just relax soak up the sun at the pool or beach.
